About

I am a professor of Spanish Literature and Language at Western Kentucky University. I read books. Many books. And I write about them. But I read images too. And I take pictures of what I see, so it can be read too. I am currently working on three different creative projects dealing with Mexico and its wonderful people.
"Guadalupe" focus on the many representation of the emblematic Virgen of Guadalupe embedded in the everyday city life.
"Exvotos" is an ongoing search for the voice of those giving thanks at any level. I am looking at this popular art from a literary perspective, reading the legends written in the exvotos as mini-stories that build a old/new story-telling tradition.
"Palimpsests" looks under the skin of the text that sets over the old text. I look for the new, unintended message produced by the mix of text and images.
